10/20 – Fused Silica Grain is a fused silica, high-quality sand for precision investment casting use.

This coarse, angular silica grain is sized between U.S. #10 and #20 mesh (approximately 850–2000 microns), making it ideal for backup coats and stucco layers in ceramic shell systems. With extremely low thermal expansion, 10/20 fused silica reduces the risk of shell cracking during autoclave dewaxing and high-temperature metal pours. It’s thermally stable, chemically inert, and nearly free of iron and cristobalite—ensuring clean burnout and a smooth casting surface. Like our other premium fused silicas, it is processed to meet tight specifications for purity and consistency, allowing foundries to maintain excellent slurry flow and reliable shell build quality. Commonly used in casting aerospace components, industrial hardware, or stainless steel parts, 10/20 fused silica provides a strong, permeable outer shell structure that performs under pressure.
