30/50 – Fused Silica Grain is a fused silica, high-quality sand for precision investment casting use.

With a particle size range between U.S. #30 and #50 mesh (approximately 300–600 microns), 30/50 fused silica grain provides a versatile balance of strength, permeability, and detail for ceramic shell systems. Its clean, angular grains ensure excellent slurry embedment and consistent shell buildup, making it ideal for intermediate slurry layers or light backup coats. Produced with ultra-high purity—typically over 99.9% SiO₂—and virtually free of iron and cristobalite, this fused silica reduces the risk of cracking during autoclaving and high-temperature pours. Like our other premium fused silicas, it is fully compatible with colloidal silica and ethyl silicate binders, supporting stable slurry suspension and reliable coating performance. Foundries rely on 30/50 fused silica to reinforce shell integrity while maintaining the surface quality required for demanding aerospace, industrial, and stainless steel castings.
