As one of the finest grades available, 290 fused silica flour is specifically designed for ultra-smooth primary slurry coats where maximum detail and surface finish are required. With a typical particle size around 10–15 microns, this flour delivers excellent coverage and edge definition, conforming to the most intricate wax patterns with minimal buildup. Its ultra-low coefficient of thermal expansion minimizes shell stress during autoclaving and metal pouring, reducing the risk of cracking or distortion. Like all of our premium fused silicas, 290 flour is over 99.9% pure SiO₂ and virtually free of iron and cristobalite, ensuring clean burnout and contaminant-free results. It suspends evenly in colloidal silica and ethyl silicate binders, offering consistent slurry behavior and easy handling.
